The two biggest advantages of shooting underwater with an interchangeable lens camera are the variety of great lenses available, and the ability to connect directly to connect an external flash directly to the camera. This housing is designed with these key points in mind to deliver a system that truly helps you take better photos in and under the water.
Photographing a fish at depth is like shooting a race car in the dark. A fast and reliable strobe connection is essential to getting the shot—from sailfish to super macro. Since the OM-D E-M10 Mark II is advanced enough to support it, an electrical flash hot shoe and strobe bulkhead come standard on the housing. If you've been shooting fiber optic strobes, you'll appreciate the lack of flash lag and extended battery life provided by a true, studio-grade flash connection. Cords are available for Ikelite, SEA&SEA, INON, or Nikonos strobes for ultimate versatility if you have multiple sets of strobes.
Proper strobe exposure is a matter of microseconds, which doesn't leave much time to communicate between the camera and an external strobe. We are the only manufacturer that provides camera-specific TTL encoding for automatic exposure fine-tuned to the E-M10 Mark II's sophisticated flash exposure protocol. This information is communicated to the strobe via sync cord, which is the fastest and most reliable means of underwater signal transmission possible. The TTL circuit built into the housing and powered by the strobe for zero maintenance and no batteries to change. At this time, only Ikelite DS strobes are capable of powering the circuitry. SEA&SEA, INON, and Nikonos strobes will still enjoy fast recycle times and improved battery life, but must be used in manual exposure modes only.
In order to keep the housing as compact as possible and extend battery life of the camera, the built-in flash is not usable in this installation. Most popular strobes can be connected by sync cord.
It couldn't be more simple to change ports than this system—just press the port on and tighten three thumb screws. Feel positive reinforcement that the port is secure without any complex moving parts that can jam or break in a remote location.
This housing accepts a variety of ports to accommodate all of the most popular zoom, macro, and wide angle lenses from Olympus and Panasonic. The E-M10 Mark II has been praised by professionals for its well designed control set. We grow this control set for underwater, providing larger controls and push buttons which are easy to access even with thick gloves. All controls are located as close as comfortably possible to the original location on the camera to reduce the need to re-learn your camera and develop new muscle memory. Control symbols laser engraved into the back of the housing will never peel off or fade even with years of use.
The camera's large, super-bright LCD screen is viewable edge-to-edge through the back of the housing. A built-in magnifying viewfinder includes specially optics to provides a clear view of the camera's EVF when wearing a dive mask. The standard viewfinder removes easily for the attachment of our beloved Straight or 45° Magnifying Viewfinders.
With a system of this caliber, a tray with handle is essential for the attachment of lighting and comfortable handling in a wide variety of shooting scenarios. This housing includes a balanced aluminum tray with our signature quick release handle for easy attachment and removal of strobes and video lights. This unique handle is curved slightly to fit the nature curvature of your hand, and features a soft over-mold which makes it a delight to hold. The complete tray and handle detaches with the removal of two nuts for packing or to attach the optional Tray with Dual Handles.
An o-ring works best when it's true to its original form. Our signature housing design eliminates the dreaded o-ring groove which traps dirt and twists the critical main seal. For added reassurance, there's no substitute for looking through the clear back and inspecting the actual o-ring seal once your housing is closed. Special polycarbonate blends allow us to create an extremely strong yet clear and lightweight enclosure. Polycarbonate is fundamentally corrosion-resistant for easy maintenance year after year.

TTL or "Through-The-Lens" flash metering means the strobe interprets information from the camera to control flash duration and properly expose an image. TTL may be accomplished directly through electrical signals from the camera, or indirectly through watching the behavior of the camera's built-in flash.
Circuitry built into this housing allows the camera to communicate directly with compatible underwater strobes (see Strobe Compatibility section below). When connected via this circuitry, the camera learns that an external flash is attached and is able to more accurately adjust exposure by knowing this. The camera's flash will not fire, eliminating the shutter lag associated with waiting for the camera's flash to recycle.
The Ikelite-style electrical bulkhead is widely recognized as the most reliable waterproof strobe sync connection available. In order to communicate with the camera, compatible Ikelite DS strobes must be connected to the housing's electrical bulkhead using a single or dual TTL sync cord.
Non-Ikelite strobes may be connected to this bulkhead using a compatible sync cord, however the housing's circuitry will not receive power and the strobes will operate in manual exposure modes only.
Whether in TTL or manual exposure, use of an electrical sync cord eliminates the issues of signal interference, inconsistent exposure due to weak fiber optic transmission, and false triggering caused by light rays bouncing off the water's surface or your buddy's flash going off. Sync cords are comparably priced to fiber optic cords and are equally durable.
Durable polycarbonate and acrylic construction provides a unique view of the camera to ensure correct waterproof installation and confidence underwater. Simply close the two stainless steel locking lid snaps, and see the o-ring form a solid black, watertight seal. Large, ergonomic controls provide access to all important camera functions including front and rear dials. An included tray with soft-grip handle provides comfortable handling underwater and our signature quick release attachment system for lighting accessories.

The housing port is designed to accept color filter, wide angle, and macro options for 3.9-inch diameter ports. Light is absorbed very quickly as it passes through water. A subject will look darker, less colorful and somewhat grainy when viewed through even a few feet of water. The addition of a compatible wide angle accessory expands the camera's field of view underwater, providing the opportunity to get as close as possible to the subject and reduce the amount of water light passes through. The results speak for themselves - photos with the best color, exposure and clarity possible.

Trigger your Ikelite DS-series strobe off any camera or strobe flash. The Optical Slave Converter simply attaches to the strobe's electrical bulkhead in place of a sync cord connector. The enlarged slave window provides approximately 90 degrees field of view for remote triggering. Recommended if wireless slave triggering is your primary application.
The Optical Slave Converter can be extended using the optional 3-foot Extension Cord for creative backlighting in wrecks, caves, and pool studio set-ups. It can also be used above water for studio photography work.
The Optical Slave Converter supports manual exposure modes as set on the attached DS strobe. TTL exposure mode is not supported.
An individual Optical Slave Converter is needed for each strobe. Use of multiple strobes requires one Optical Slave Converter per strobe. The Optical Slave Converter supports DS50, DS51, DS125, DS160 and DS161 strobes.
The included fiber optic port threads onto the front of the Remote Optical Slave Converter for the attachment of and triggering via a fiber optic cord. This Converter is sensitive enough to fire the strobe via fiber optic cable with most camera flashes. It is not recommended for use with LED fiber optic triggers by Nauticam, SEA&SEA, and other manufacturers.
The Optical Slave Converter automatically configures itself for compatibility with both pre-flash and non pre-flash camera modes. No setting of small switches or confusion over number of pre-flashes. Simply turn on your strobe and take one picture to configure.
Auto-ranging input allows the charger to work in any country whose electrical system falls within a 100V - 240V range. AC adapters for the following regions are included: USA, Europe, United Kingdom, and Australia.
The charger showcases the latest pulse charge technology; this feature grants near complete charging while also conditioning cells over time, resulting in longer battery life and more flashes per charge. Its "trickle" charge mode helps maintain a pack's charge without danger of overheating. In addition, this charger is less likely to fail when used with poorly regulated power sources.
Smart Charger is configured to charge 6-cell Lithium Ion Ikelite battery packs quickly and efficiently. The 4067.1 Smart Charger should only be used with Lithium Ion battery packs.
