: : I just bought a Nik II with the original bulb flash. Now I would like to get an electronic flash instead.
: : I understand that I can have the sync port on the camera converted to a NikIII sync or connect it via #S19100 Sea & Sea SeaLoc Adapter.
: : Converting is apparently not done in Switzerland, so I'll go for the Sealoc Adapter. But: Which strobes work with that adapter? Only Sea & Sea YS-50MS ?
: : And: Is it very un-advisable or even impossible to connect the old (bulb flash) cable to the sync cord of a modern strobe (by opening the cables, connecting and sealing them again)?
: : Thanks for your advice!

: Yes, if you use the #S19100 S&S SEALOC ADAPTER F/NIK II $78.00 you must use a strobe that has a Nelson/SeaLoc sync cord, such as the #S1150 S&S YS-50MS STROBE PACKAGE $323.00. Otherwise, Southern Nikonos Service Center in Houston TX (nikonosrepair@aol.com) can do the camera sync conversion. Then you can use a little more contemporary #NK11202X NIKONOS SB-105 SPEEDLIGHT KIT $545.00.
: I would not advise trying to replace the sync connectors on any underwater equipment unless you are (1)technically capable, and (2)can pressure test the equipment before use. Otherwise you would be putting both your strobe and camera at risk of flooding.

Even if you could rewire the connector to a new flash, it would not work. The bulb flash connector is M sync, NOT X sync. Your flash would be triggered 20 mil sec before the shutter is fully opened.
Change the socket or get a new X-Sync connector for any strobe you are going to use.
