The DS161 combines power with wide angle coverage to give you the most bang for your buck. This kit provides everything you need to add a strobe to any Ikelite TTL system for Compact Digital, Mirrorless, or DSLR camera.
The quality of light is exceptional due to a round flash tube and custom powder coated reflector designed specifically to deliver the softest, most even coverage possible. Strobes with a straight flashtube may be capable of high powers, but require the addition of a diffuser to spread out their sharp, rectangular beam pattern and reduce the harsh hot spot. The DS161 beam is designed to be perfectly soft and wide spread through its reflector design, and is capable of providing you the coverage and power you want and avoiding the one f/stop loss caused by adding a diffuser.
DS160 and DS161 strobes are legendary for their ability to keep up in rapid firing situations—a cut above any flash on the market. Electrical sync connection and a high-capacity battery pack provide the speed you need to capture fast moving subjects like sharks and sailfish at just the right millisecond.
When combined with a compatible TTL system, the DS161 automatically adjusts brightness to provide perfect exposure whether you're shooting macro, portrait or wide angle. The Fiber Optic Adapter converts the electrical bulkhead of any Ikelite DS Substrobe into a fiber optic port. This adapter is a manual exposure (non-TTL) trigger only. The strobe's output must be adjusted using the manual power settings built into the strobe (varies by model). The Fiber Optic Adapter automatically configures itself for compatibility with both pre-flash and non pre-flash camera modes. No setting of small switches or confusion over number of pre-flashes. Simply turn on your Substrobe and take one picture to configure. An individual Fiber Optic Adapter is needed for each Substrobe. Use of two Substrobes requires two Fiber Optic Adapters. Depth rated to 300 feet (90 meters). Requirements for Use 1. Any Ikelite DS Substrobe: Compatible Substrobes include DS50, DS51, DS125, DS160 and DS161 models. The Epoque ES-150DS Alfa is a high-performance underwater strobe light that is designed to be compatible with most cameras. The automatic pre-flash function will adjust for most digital or film cameras.
The camera strobe flash has a variable power output for precision manual manipulation of light. For most point & shoot digital cameras the built-in slave or a fiber optic cable will fire the strobe when the camera's on-board flash fires. For more advanced cameras with a hot shoe the strobe will fire with a 5 pin Nikonos sync cord.
Camera strobe flashes are extremely important for your underwater imaging system. The ocean is one big, blue filter. As you descend, the reds and oranges quickly become muted shades of blue and gray. Firing a color corrected strobe light on your subject will bring back your subject's natural color.
